Mission and goals: our commitment to a better world

We believe that Earth sciences play a crucial role in addressing new social and economic challenges in a changing world.
We are committed to:

  • Ensure sustainable and responsible access to essential natural resources, such as water and raw materials;
  • Understand the effects of change on natural environments;
  • Mitigating natural hazards and disasters, promoting community safety;
  • Promote the safe use of space, both above and below ground.

The Institute of Earth Sciences responds to society's needs and demands through research, services, education and scientific outreach. Our aim is to transfer the knowledge acquired and skills developed to the service of the community, thus contributing to the sustainable progress of our region.
